Conference “Faces of gender"

invites to the conference “Faces of gender” on 15-16 October 2012
This will be the second conference on language and gender relations organized by the Department of Philology of Silesian School of Economics and Languages in Katowice. The main objective of the conference is a reflection on the socio-cultural concept of gender identity, and its final effect will be a publication that combines knowledge about gender in terms of humanities. The organizers therefore invite representatives from various fields of the humanities (philology, philosophy, art, cultural studies, religious studies, sociology, psychology and related fields), in order to study gender from a broad interdisciplinary perspective. Papers in English or Polish are welcome.
We would like the discussion to focus on the following issues:
- gender' in the language, culture and literature,
- prototypical and stereotypical perception of gender,
- gender in the linguistic picture of the world,
- gender linguistics,
- the concept of gender in the humanities,
- biological and socio-cultural concepts of sex and gender,
- gender in language acquisition,
- determinants of gender in language,
- gender and linguistic asymmetries,
- gender performativity,
- gender images in contemporary media.

The registration form is available here. The conference will be held on Ondraszka 12th St. in Katowice, Poland. The conference fee including the cost of publication in the amount of 50 euro should be paid to the account number: PL 66 1240 4227 1111 0000 4843 7903 before 30 May 2012. The swift code is: PKOPPLPW. The title of the transfer should include the name of the participant and annotation 'registration fee'.
The beneficiary is Silesian School of Economics and Languages in Katowice, 40-594 Katowice, ul. Gallusa 12. Participants who wish to take advantage of accommodation are asked to pay an additional fee that will cover the cost of renting a room in the student dormitory in the amount of 10 euro for one night.
